Bed Size Dimension Guide

The size of a twin xl mattress is nominally 39 inches x 80 inches but will sometimes be as much as 1-2 inches smaller in each dimension. Twin XL size is a better choice for a taller child or adult. That extra five inches of length will be a godsend for those family members over six feet tall who don't have room for a larger bed. We’ll custom make your next mattress any size you want.

There are many factors that will determine the size of bed you can fit into a bedroom such as:

• door locations that could make much of your wall space unusable.
• window locations that can interfere with furniture or cause drafts.
• uneven ceiling heights that can reduce your usable square footage.
• placement of electrical, cable, HVAC vents and phone outlets.
• additional furniture that you may wish to place in the room including, night stands, chests, desks and dressers.
• Keep in mind that if you’re adding a headboard or complete bed to your new mattress set (and not just a steel support frame) this will add to the overall dimensions shown in this guide by two to ten inches.

• Very few manufacturers make foundations with springs inside any more as costs have risen and there was little evidence that it increased the comfort or life span of the mattress above it. There are still some foundations that feature a very stiff wire grid just under the box spring’s top cover while others are manufactured with wood side supports and a solid wooden platform right underneath that same top cover.
