It is difficult to say which type of mattress (soft or firm) will last longer as it depends on several factors such as the quality of materials used (it's not difficult at all to say firmer mattresses have a longer useful life), the level of care and maintenance, (the only thing you can do to maintain your mattress is to rotate it head to toe a few times a year, or flip over on the other side as well if it is made the old school way that is two sided) and the individual preferences and sleeping habits of the user.(unsure what this means other than some people care more than others when their mattress deteriorates)

In general, a high-quality mattress made with durable materials will last longer regardless of whether it is classified as soft or firm. (100% true)

It is also recommended to use a mattress protector to prolong the life of the mattress. (It does not prolong the life much at all but if waterproof it does prevent a spilled coffee from soaking through which would nullify your warranty)
